What are the SSH credentials?

You can perform an SSH login with the following clients:

  • Windows users will use Putty, MobaXTerm, any cygwin-derived program or the Linux Subsystem for Windows (preferred).
  • *nix users will make use of the native ssh client.

Use the following default credentails:

  • user: rds-user
  • password: password
  • then, once in, type: sudo -i for administrative rights (root)

So, if using a standard ssh client on *nix machines (Linux, OS X): open the terminal emulator (shell, cli or the way you want to call it) and type:
ssh rds-user@RASPBERRY_IP

On Windows, you can use Putty graphically. On MobaXTerm (or similar or by using the Linux Subsystem for Windows), on the contrary, the syntax is identical to the one described above.

Pi’s address is always shown upon boot.

When admin screen password is modified, SSH password will be changed accordingly. So, if you set a password for the admin interface, the new SSH password will be identical. This way you can protect both system settings’ modification via browser (admin interface) and via SSH with one step.

Please change the default SSH password for your security.

SSH is the standard UNIX way to connect to the Pi’s virtual terminal in a secure encrypted way. More on Wikipedia,

SSH is enabled by default in the donors’ build of Raspberry Digital Signage.

The “release” (demo) build does not have the SSH server installed.
Please have a look at the donation page.

[SECURITY] A good idea is also to firewall port 80 and 5900 (/rds/bin/ in order to allow network traffic from/to your own administration IP address only.
