In order to force a static IP address for the Ethernet interface, follow the steps below.

(A) Modify /etc/network/interfaces via SSH (as root), with mc -e editor, and put your desired network parameters; for example:

#
# loopback
#
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
#
# ethernet
#
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.5
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

(B) Modify /etc/resolv.conf and put in your DNS resolver (if unknown, use Google’s 8.8.8.8); for example:

nameserver 8.8.8.8

Then reboot or type ifdown eth0 && sleep5 && ifup eth0
IP address will change.
