The FIA and Formula E have revealed the GEN3 EVO, it’s fastest vehicle yet.
The new electric race car can achieve an acceleration of 0 – 100kph in just 1.86 seconds.
The vehicle has a top speed of 321kph and is designed to be sustainable both on and off of the track.
Together with the FIA, specialists from Formula E have developed potentially the fastest vehicle yet.
The GEN3 Evo was unveiled this week and will hit the track in Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The car is said to have the fastest acceleration in all of the FIA’s single-seater race cars. According to a press release, these GEN3 Evo vehicles are capable of accelerating from 0 – 100kph in 1.86 seconds, a little longer than the fastest pitstop in Formula 1 in 2023.
“The GEN3 Evo heralds a ground-breaking chapter in the evolution of Formula E, embodying our dedication to innovation and high performance achieved sustainably. Featuring unprecedented acceleration and an advanced aerodynamic design, the car that I had the honour of unveiling in Monaco is set to intensify the thrill of our racing, captivating our drivers and fans around the world with truly superior capabilities and performance,” says Jeff Dodds, chief executive officer of Formula E.
Other highlights of the vehicle include a top speed of 321kph, the ability to generate 50 percent of the energy required during a race while braking and an electric motor with 90 percent efficiency. The GEN3 Evo is all-wheel drive, a first for the sport which will maximise acceleration and control.
What’s more is that these cars are designed to be recycled sustainably even after they’re not racing any more. The battery cells used will be recycled as will the carbon fiber and other materials used in the chassis of the vehicle.
Speaking of batteries, Formula E is currently developing a battery that is designed to allow a 30 second, 600kW high-speed charge for additional energy mid-race.

I would like to thank both FIA and Formula E teams for the hard work which underlines our shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable motorsport, while delivering competitive racing,” FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem said in a statement.
This weekend Formula E heads to Monaco for Round 8 of Season 10. South Africans can watch the action on SuperSport which will broadcast both practice sessions, qualifying and the E-Prix on Saturday at 15:03. Locals can also catch the race on eTV.
The Championship is incredibly tight at the moment with Pascal Wehrlein from TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team leading the championship at 89 points and Jake Dennis from Andretti Formula E in second also with 89 points.
Spare a thought for Nyck De Vries who failed to impress in Formula 1 and hasn’t had much luck in Formula E either as he occupies the bottom of the rankings with his Mahindra Formula E teammate Edoardo Mortara.
